CAMDEN - November 11, 2017 the Latin American Economic Development Association welcomed a group of local entrepreneurs to the inaugural session of the Women's Business Academy (WBA). The WBA is a free, intensive nine-week business development course culminating with a comprehensive business plan for each participant.

Despite the growing number of female small business owners barriers to entry still exist, resulting in statistically significant differences in the makeup of small business demographics and access to capital. Recognizing this dilemma, the program cultivates not only necessary business skills, but also strategies to build confidence and navigate a work/life balance in a supportive setting.

The program is one of the services offered by the newly formed Women's Business Center (WBC) at LAEDA. Generously funded by a grant from the Small Business Administration, the WBC is the first program of its kind serving women entrepreneurs in South Jersey. Additional services include women focused business seminars, a Jump Start five-week business class series, networking events, a women's lending circle, and one-on-one technical assistance. In response to the varying needs of the community, assistance is offered in both English and Spanish, workshops are offered at different times of the day and on weekends, and online coursework is also available.

The WBA will host classes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from January through March. Enrollment is closed for the current session, however, WBA is accepting interested participants for future programs and services.
